In order to facilitate search and surveillance, the police use UAS, also known as drones in the people's mouth.

- Missing persons is a type of example where we cooperate with many different police units. We are also used when there are football matches and demonstrations to give the interim manager a snapshot, says Tobias Kjell, UAS operator at Nyköpingspolisen.

Faster and better position picture

The drone allows the police to get a quicker and better idea of what is happening.

- If something happens a few blocks away, we usually fly faster than the cars and buses drive.

The police in Sörmland began using drones during the summer of 2018. In Sweden, there are approximately 50 trained operators within the police, eight of which are in the east region, which consists of Jönköping, Södermanland and Östergötland counties.

- It's not something we can put our whole future on, but we need many different skills within the police, but it's something that allows us to do certain tasks better.

Only trained UAS operators are allowed to fly with the Police Authority's UAS. Today there are about 50 trained operators within the police in Sweden.
