The community building committee in Lessebo has been ordered to save one percent of this year's bid for 2019, and another three percent for 2020. The solution will be to skip the classic Christmas lighting in the lamp posts.

The reason why just Christmas lights became the solution are several, partly that the brackets in the lamp posts were worn and needed to be replaced, and that the Swedish Transport Administration had views that it had brackets in certain lamp posts.

- Much is about protection and security. The brackets were worn and some had fallen when blown. Replacing them would have resulted in an excessive cost. In addition, there has been a conflict with the Swedish Transport Administration which meant that some places would have and others did not, which is why we chose not to have any Christmas lights at all in the lamp posts, says Lars Altgård (S), chairman of the municipal council in Lessebo.

Sensitive question

In total, it will be a saving for Lessebo municipality of about SEK 100.00 to ship the Christmas lights in the lamp posts. But picking down Christmas lights is delicate. SVT has previously reported on the disappointment at several locations in Uppvidinge municipality.

- Of course, it is sad now that the darkness is coming, says Lars Altgård.

Is there any Christmas feeling in Lessebo now?

- Absolutely, there will be lamps elsewhere, and there will be Christmas trees, but no lamps in the lamp posts.
