P4 Uppland was the first to report on the condom shortage, which is an effect of the supplier problems between Apotekstjänst and Region Uppsala.

The Infection Protection Unit provides, among other things, youth clinics, school nurses and health centers with condoms. So now they have run out.

"Hopefully, those we supply with condoms will have their own stock so that they can do for a while," says Cecilia Brenner, STI coordinator at the Infection Protection Unit.

Risk of unprotected sex

During the first half of the year, the Infection Protection Unit saw an increase in chlamydia among young people in Uppsala County. From 533 to 679 cases. This corresponds to an increase of 27 percent.

- Many young people get their condoms from the youth reception. The risk, if there are no readily available condoms, is that they choose to have unprotected sex, says Cecilia Brenner.

No forecast for when the Infection Protection Unit will receive a condom delivery is unclear.

- I guess they prioritize surgical equipment in the first place. I have a pile of orders from, among other things, youth receptions located on my desk, says Cecilia Brenner.
