The new model means that the subsidy will be income-based. There are households with an annual income below SEK 283,800, who will be able to take advantage of the discount.

- Swimming is a vital knowledge and we want to give all children an opportunity to learn swimming early. Not only are we lowering the cost for those families with the lowest incomes, but we are also investing in an information campaign to attract more children from this group to the swimming school, ”says Sports City Councilman Jonas Naddebo (C).

Previous investments in outer city baths

The municipal swimming pools in Farsta, Tensta, Vällingby, Husby and Skärholmen have previously had subsidized swimming school fees. The rebate, introduced as a pilot project by the former majority in the City Hall, was abolished by the blue-green majority, with the promise of developing a new model.

When the new model is introduced, the discount applies to all the city's swimming pools, and the price is further reduced. Eight courses normally cost SEK 700, the discounted price will be SEK 200.

Information campaign should reach more

Will this new model reach more children?

- Yes, that is the ambition and the model is also measurable. But the information campaign is at least as important as the price cut, says Jonas Naddebo (C).

The city will also develop a new association support for swimming clubs to be able to run swimming school to a greater extent.

- This is so that children who go to swimming school should continue to swim and get involved in the association life.

On Monday, the sports committee's members and the green-blue majority are expected to vote through the proposal.
