The longest non-stop flight in history landed in Sydney on October 20 after more than 19 hours in the air since its departure from New York, a feat that the Australian company Qantas plans to translate soon into commercial success.

The longest flight record achieved by an airline has been achieved. The Qantas Boeing 787-9 from New York landed on September 20 in Sydney after traveling 16,000 kilometers in 19 hours and 16 minutes. This technical feat is to become generalized. This experimental flight is the first in a series of three very long flights scheduled by the Australian airline.

The Boeing 787-9 was carrying only 49 people, employees of the Australian airline Qantas and researchers. This flight was not an attempt to break a record but to test the ability of travelers and crew to support as many hours of non-stop flight and the test proved conclusive.

Economic and ecological

For Jean Serrat, former captain, these flights are beneficial for everyone, " already from the ecological point of view because where planes consume and pollute the most is when they go down and when they take off. We will be able to fly between two points extremely distant from each other without having to stop. Where a plane consumes the least fuel is at very high altitude .

" It's going to be in the direction of the passengers because stopovers are lengthening flight time and expenses for airlines because there are landing and take - off rights ," he says. It goes in the direction of the economy and it is the future .

The longest commercial air route in the world is currently an 18-hour, 30-minute link between New York and Singapore, launched in 2018 by Singapore Airlines.
