Paella, a vegetarian oumph stew and Thai chicken is served this day in the dining room at Älvkullegymnasiet in Karlstad. But when lunch is over, there is often food left over that cannot be utilized and used again - so then the food managers came up with the idea of handing out food boxes and letting students and staff buy the leftovers home.

Environmental projects at school

The money you receive for the food goes to various environmental projects at the school. The trial with the so-called "Save-the-food-boxes" has been going on for three months and at that time it has been seen that food waste has decreased.

- We are talking about sustainable learning. Talking about sustainable development is something that is very important for us at school and for our students and the food boxes is part of that thinking, says the headmaster Daniel Skålerud.

The staff of all the municipality's preschools and primary schools also have the opportunity to buy lunch boxes with them at home.
