So far, about 100 planned surgeries have been canceled at the Academic Hospital, due to equipment shortages. Almost a third of them affect children.

- Our work is complicated when we do not have access to the material we need, but above all we think of all the children and their families who have been affected, says Ida Persson.

Worked a long time to increase the number of operations

March 1, 2018, the Child Section was formed, which includes the Child Intensive Care Department (Biva), the Child Anesthesia and Child Operations Department and the Child Awareness Department. Since then, they have worked hard to shorten waiting times and for a year now the number of planned operations has been higher than ever.

"We have to cancel surgeries that we have to take again, it is incredibly frustrating," says chief physician and section manager Rainer Dörenberg.

The 30 planned operations of children who have been canceled correspond to 38.5 percent of the department's total number of operations during that time. If more will be set, you do not know yet.

- We already have a full schedule already, so we are worried. It feels like it will be a long time before we are on the track again, says Ida Persson.

In the clip above you can hear Ida Persson talk about how the department is affected by the lack of medical equipment.
