The next G7 summit, scheduled for 2020 in the United States, will be held in one of Donald Trump's golf clubs in Florida. The site was mentioned by the president himself after the last summit in Biarritz. For their part, Democrats denounce a conflict of interest.

With our correspondent in Washington, Anne Corpet

" It's not the only place, but it's the best, " said Mick Mulvaney, announcing the venue for the next G7 summit, a Trump-branded Florida golf complex. To justify this choice, the chief of staff of the president evoked the area of the site, its proximity to the airport and its many buildings.

Conflict of interest ?

Mick Mulvaney also refutes any conflict of interest. " First, he will not make a profit ," he says. It is an established fact. Everyone is asking if this is not a golden opportunity to advertise. The Donald Trump brand is probably quite well known. She does not need help. It's the best known name in the English language and probably worldwide right now. So no, there is no problem that he could benefit from it in any form . "

Several Democrats are already denouncing this choice. This is " a flagrant example of corruption, " said the head of the House Judiciary Committee. Others are worried about possible improvements to the site made with the taxpayer's money. A complaint has already been filed in court by an association that accuses Donald Trump of violating the clause that, in the Constitution, prohibits the president from accepting money from foreign governments.
