Guillaume Soro has officially launched the presidential race of 2020. The former president of the National Assembly can already count on many supporters. It has been a few years since young political parties and citizen movements called for a Soro nomination. But what does this mosaic of support really weigh?

The Rally for Côte d'Ivoire, the Movement for the Promotion of New Values, or the Union of Soroists ... And this is just a glimpse of the list of parties and political movements wishing to bring the former president of the National Assembly at the head of the country. Last Saturday in Valencia, Guillaume Soro gives them satisfaction by finally announcing his candidacy and launching his movement Générations et peuple solidaires (GPS).

But if the number of supporters seems important, their political weight is not yet. The regional and municipal elections of October 2018 did not allow the Soroists to impose themselves locally. And very few headliners stand out at the moment.

According to political scientist Sylvain N'Guessan, Guillaume Soro could well be inspired by the model of conquest of French President Emmanuel Macron. But the analyst believes that this strategy could be ineffective if the former rebel leader maintains a vertical concentration of power.

Moreover, a plethoric number of political parties could well give rise in the future to rivalries between the different factions. But for the moment, RACI President Kanigui Soro says that all are working in synergy to serve their common goal: to make Soro the next president of Côte d'Ivoire.

In the meantime, the former rebel leader retains Macron's method, and calls on his internet supporters to create local citizen committees to implement GPS movement across the country.
