The earthquake occurred about five miles northwest of Nordmaling and about as far north of Örnsköldsvik. According to Björn Lund, earthquakes are common in this area.

- In the Örnsköldsvik tract and south it is a stretch with quite a lot of earthquakes.

Today's earthquake was relatively deep down and Björn Lund believes that the effects will then not be as great.

- It may have been a little scratched in the glasses, but often it mumbles or if you are close by you can hear a sharp bang.

Earthquakes of this magnitude or greater occur three to four times a year. The last quake of about the same size in April 2007 was about two miles a day.
