Driving into a hailstorm. So a motorist described the experience of driving on Riksväg 40 between Bollebygd and Borås. On the night of September 26, roadworks had been going on. When the road was reopened, it soon became clear that something had gone wrong and that the pulp on the road had not dried.

There was too much gravel on the way, according to the Swedish Transport Administration's project manager Fredd Larsson. According to him, the road should not have opened when it looked like it did.

Many have complained

Since the morning of September, the Swedish Transport Administration has been overwhelmed by complaints. Over 200 have heard of it. A total of 122 require damages.

- It's a high-traffic road, after all. It goes quickly when things go wrong, says Fredd Larsson, project manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Must be tried

Several motorists have told SVT News West about deductibles of up to SEK 10,000. The Swedish Transport Administration is now looking at whether they are entitled to compensation.

- It is in the process that it will be investigated if the Swedish Transport Administration together with its contractor has failed.

But the process will take time. According to Fredd Larsson, it may take up to six months before it is completed.

Signpost for stone shot

The speed of the road was reduced to 70 and there were also signs warning of stone shootings.

- There are many cases where the Swedish Transport Administration is indicted for signs of problems and has not been careless towards the road users. It should be tried here.
