The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment has launched the “Together” competition to reduce food waste, coinciding with World Food Day, targeting school children aged 12-17.

The ministry said in a bulletin issued recently that the competition period of one month expires on November 16, stressing that it aims to raise awareness of the importance of reducing the rate of waste by 50% by 2030, under goal 12 of the Sustainable Development Goals on sustainable consumption and production.

She added that the competition also aims to reduce food waste in schools and homes, pointing out that the competition consists in designing students a poster that contributes to awareness of reducing food waste. It illustrates the problem, contains a call for decision in a way that can be accommodated by the target group, and the poster is in the form of a drawing or demonstration.

The first-place winner will receive a six-by-six-meter hydroponics system with 200 productive plants, and the second and third place winners will receive an educational visit to the Gracia farm.

The ministry launched the initiative to reduce food waste in the middle of last year.
