At the beginning of the year it was clear that about SEK 40 million needed to be saved in the school boards in Karlshamn municipality, which has generated strong reactions.

But neither the board for children, youth and school (bus) nor the high school and adult education board will be able to save so much money and now the municipal council proposes that a total of SEK 25 million be allocated to both committees.

- This is because they will manage their finances this year. They have each made a long-term plan for how they will settle their finances for three years, but they did not settle with the economy this year and make the assessment that they need the money, says Per-Ola Mattsson (S), chairman of the municipal council in Karlshamn.

Still have to save

This is about SEK 16 million to the Board for Children, Youth and School and SEK 9.5 million to the High School and Adult Education Board. Despite the extra money, the school must save about SEK 4.5 million during the year.

- It is a lot of money, but everything has to be put in relation to things and, for example, the bus committee that has total costs of SEK 711 million needs to save SEK 3 million this year, says Per-Ola Mattsson (S).

In total, Karlshamn municipality is expected to go back nine million this year.

Where do you get money to donate to SEK 25 million to the school board?

- The funding for that money is partly that we lowered the budget and we used a profit equalization reserve that you can use under certain conditions, says Per-Ola Mattsson.
