She is the second woman to receive this distinction, which she shares with two confreres. The Nobel Prize for Economics was awarded Monday (October 14th) to Franco-American Esther Duflo and Americans Abhijit Banerjee and Michael Kremer for their work on reducing poverty in the world.

The work conducted by the laureates "has introduced a new approach to obtain reliable answers on the best way to reduce poverty in the world," said the Royal Academy of Sciences. They will share the price of nine million crowns (about 830,000 euros).

Esther Duflo and Abhijit Banerjee teach at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Michael Kremer is a professor at Harvard.
