US President Donald Trump said on Monday that Kurdish-led forces in northeastern Syria may release Islamic State prisoners to get US troops back into the region, adding that it would be very easy for them to be captured again.

"The Kurds may release some to get us to intervene," Trump said in a tweet on Twitter.

He stressed that his country will not fight another war between people who have been fighting for 200 years, and stressed that "will be imposed on Turkey significant sanctions, but do some believe that we will fight a war with a NATO member? The seemingly endless wars will end."

In another tweet, Trump accused Europeans of failing to receive their ISIS citizens detained in northern Syria, saying that Europe had an opportunity to take the detained ISIS members but did not want to bear the consequences, leaving the cost to the United States to pay.

For his part, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said that Turkey is not only fighting the YPG, but all terrorist organizations, especially the state.

Akar stressed that his country's goal is to fight terrorism, noting that the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) launched the ISIS operatives from prisons in northern Syria.

On the developments of the military operation, Akkar said that the cities of Tal Abyad and Ras Al Ain are under control and that efforts are continuing in the rest of the region.
