According to an American army officer, the Turkish military fired 155 mm shells. He also claims that the Turkish side knew that there was a US military contingent in that zone.
“We stayed there for several months, this is the most clearly defined position in the entire region,” the military said.
The newspaper believes that Ankara wants to control "much more territory" in Syria. The publication also writes about Turkey’s intention to push the US military away from the Syrian city of Kobani.
Earlier, the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the Turkish military took the necessary measures to avoid causing damage to the American observation post in Syria. The defense department added that "there is no talk of any shelling of the observation post."
Also, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Syrian territory should be freed from foreign military presence.
