- It is fun to work with something that will remain - instead of tearing it down again, as we usually do at school, says Noel Jardstål, a student at the building program at Bråvallgymnasiet.

Five new apartments for young people

It is in the home service's obsolete premises on Ljuragatan that Rental Homes is now building new apartments especially aimed at young people who are between 18-24 years.

Workshops with students

In total, there are five smaller apartments with 1 room and kitchen - all with different sizes and floor plans. And for the project, they have entered into a collaboration with the Bråvallagymnasiet, where around 40 students from the school get the chance to realize the project.

- Initially, the architect had workshops with the students on the technology program to bring in wishes and thoughts for the project. After that, the construction students came in to help build, together with our contractor, says Stefan Källman, project manager at Hyrebostäder.

All students are allowed to participate

For Noel Jardstål, this is the second time he is here now and helps.

- We work at exactly the same times as the other carpenters do. Then we change every four weeks, so that all students can come here and do their part, he says.

"We need good craftsmen"

- We very much need well-trained craftsmen. And if we can now make sure that the students have learned a little more than they might otherwise have done - then it is fantastic, at the same time as we get new apartments for young people, says Stefan Källman.

So can there be more similar projects in the future?

- Yes, we have started to think about some kind of continuation. Hopefully we can move on, he says.

The apartments are expected to be ready for occupancy at the turn of the year.
