The plans to make Umeå the country's first 5G city go ahead, but has raised some concerns. This summer, a large information meeting was held at the People's House in Umeå, where both the Radiation Safety Authority and the Public Health Authority were present to answer questions.

- Sure, the project has been questioned locally, but it has to be. There is always concern about what is unknown, says Anders Kjellander, chief operating officer. According to him, no more meetings are scheduled in Umeå in the future. Anders Kjellander thinks that it is enough for a video from the meeting to be found on the project website for interested parties to know more.

5G means data rates that are 10 to 100 times faster than 4G networks. The idea is that Umeå will become a test environment for developing new digital solutions, for example in healthcare or traffic, with, for example, self-driving vehicles.

- We want to find interesting applications for the companies in Umeå, says Anders Kjellander.
