A man has died this Saturday in a fire in his home, in the Cantabrian town of Laredo. The man was inside the house with his wife, 75 years old, who had to be treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation.

The Emergency Management Center 112 of the Government of Cantabria received the warning call after 06:40 hours from a neighbor who warned that smoke was coming from the fifth floor of a building on Comandante Villar Street and saw a person asking for help.

Autonomous firefighters from Laredo Park were mobilized, medical personnel from 061, along with agents from the Local Police of Laredo and members of the Civil Guard, Castro Urdiales firefighters and Santander firefighters, who finally did not need to intervene.

Upon the arrival of the firemen, the fire had broken through the terrace and the troops were able to rescue the woman and transfer her to the Laredo hospital , where she is being treated for smoke inhalation, but the man had already died.

Local Police and Civil Guard are in the place of the event and in the hospital of Laredo. The male's body is in the custody of the judicial police awaiting the removal of the body.
