SVT News has previously stated that park slide is a growing problem in the country. In Vapnö Grustag, the County Administrative Board in Halland is attempting to investigate how to best get rid of the plant which is a threat to biodiversity.

In the clip above you can hear what experiments have been done and how things have gone.

- The problem is that it is very competitive and spreads once it has gained hold. We have problems in many areas with park slide, says Jessica Gunnarsson, who works with endangered species on the county administrative board in Halland.

Coming from Asia

How widespread park slide is in Halland is not fully documented.

- But we have seen it spread over the last five years and the stocks we have been monitoring have grown larger, says Jessica Gunnarsson.

Originally from Asia, Parkslide is a large plant with bamboo-like stems that grows densely.

"Probably it came here through the garden trade, so it's often when it comes to these invasive plants," says Jessica Gunnarsson.

Individuals can grow the plant

Today, there is nothing that prevents private individuals from growing park slides in the garden. Although the plant causes a lot of problems, park slides are not included in the EU regulation on invasive species to be fought.

- Today there is no legal support to fight park slides. We can only recommend that people do not plant it in more places, says Jessica Gunnarsson.
