- We see that women have a greater risk behavior, that they may not even consider the extent of this with how and where, for example, they store their passwords. At the same time, we see that when it comes to the most common reports of fraud offenses, more men are affected, says Lotta Mauritzson, who is a crime prevention officer at the National Fraud Center, NBC.

Card fraud without a physical card is most common

So far in 2019, 4 756 fraud crimes have been reported in the Eastern Police Region, of which card fraud without a physical card is the most common reported crime.

- It is about illegal purchases, where the fraudster does not have access to physical cards but makes purchases by stating the card details, says Lotta Mauritzson.

- Fraud is becoming more and more IT-related, you are committing fraud via the Internet and that opportunity is only increasing, the network is expanding and we are increasingly used to doing our business there, says Lotta Mauritzson.

IT-related crime also includes data breaches, which is a broad heading. In the East region, 724 data breaches were reported. It can be anything from complex cyber crime to overload attacks.

- It is a matter of computer power, where several requests for example requests for connection are sent, says Lotta Mauritzson.

Several websites were affected by this last year.

- Data simply can't handle all requests and it shuts down, says Lotta Mauritzson.

Illegal registry entries

Data breaches can also be about illegal registry entries, where, for example, employees in county councils and the police make beatings against persons who lack authorization. The crime classification also includes the cutting of accounts in social media, where someone pretends to be someone he is not.

The fact that there are so many different types of crime within the same heading is problematic, says Lotta Mauritzson.

- We are looking at how we can divide data breaches into several parts. We're not there yet, but hopefully next year, ”she says.
