In a subsequent tweet, Trump specified that 'one of the great things about the agreement with China is the fact that, for various reasons, it must not go through the very long and politically complex process of approval by Congress. Beijing: trade wars damage China and the US
"Trade wars are not a good solution for China, they are not useful for the United States or for the whole world", and they will impose "huge losses on companies and consumers": said Chinese Vice Premier Liu He, a member of the 'political office of the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party and head of the China-US China global economic dialogue delegation, which in Washington met some US entrepreneurs and a senior executive of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Wednesday afternoon.

During a meeting with Craig Allen, president of the United States-China business council (Uscbc), and with Myron Brilliant, executive vice president and head of international affairs at the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Chinese vice premier declared that " economic and commercial relations between the two countries are of vital importance and have a strong impact and a considerable global impact ".

Liu said the Chinese delegation, which presents itself to the trade negotiations "with sincere attitude", is willing to have a serious dialogue with the US side on matters of mutual interest, including the trade balance, market access and protection of investors, to continue the negotiations with the aim of achieving positive progress. Allen and Brilliant said that "there are no winners in the trade wars, only losers". Moreover, "the US business community does not want the imposition of additional tariffs!"

The two officials hoped that the two sides "achieve concrete and clear progress" during this cycle of trade negotiations, deepening mutual trust and creating a "solid foundation for further talks, with the aim of finding a way to resolve differences and ending trade war ". Allen and Brilliant added that the US business community is willing to play a "positive role" in this process.

During the meeting with the IMF operations director, Kristalina Georgieva, Liu said that the next round of high-level trade negotiations between China and the United States "has attracted the attention of all parties and is a common aspiration of the world whole put an end to trade war ".

Liu stressed that, through this cycle of talks, the Chinese delegation is willing to reach a consensus with the US side regarding issues of mutual interest based on equality and mutual respect, so as to avoid disputes escalating and spread further.

The Chinese side, added Liu, hopes that the international community can make concerted efforts to safeguard global stability and prosperity. Citing the estimates of the IMF, Georgieva pointed out that the trade war is having a serious impact, with the global GDP preparing to fall by 0.8% by 2020. Furthermore, Georgieva strongly praised the determination on behalf of the IMF and China's sincerity in dealing with issues through negotiations. The Chinese government - he said - "is willing to play its part in safeguarding multilateralism and the rules of free trade".
