This is stated in a statement published on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

It is noted that the parties discussed the development of the situation in northeast Syria.

“A common opinion was expressed on the need to achieve a durable and long-term stabilization of the situation on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River on the basis of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the SAR through establishing a dialogue between Damascus and Ankara, as well as between the Syrian authorities and representatives of the Syrian Kurds,” the Foreign Ministry said.

During the talks, it was emphasized that Russia and Iraq were ready to facilitate contacts between Damascus and Ankara.

Earlier, Lavrov, commenting on Turkey’s military operation “Source of Peace” in northeastern Syria, said that at the moment Russia will “seek the need to establish a dialogue between Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic”.
