2019-10-09T09:25:07.603Z

Today, the winner of the Nobel Prize in chemistry is revealed in 2019. One of the nominees is Emmanuelle Charpentier, the researcher who at his time at Umeå University was involved in inventing the gene scissors.

The gene scissors Crispr-Cas9 revolutionized the technology of cutting and pasting genes. Almost every week, new scientific articles are published that improve gene scissors, and the technology has exploded since Nobel-tipped Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna published the first article in 2012.

At 11.45, this year's Nobel Laureate in Chemistry is announced by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences. SVT broadcasts live from 11.40
