The prisoners of the Anaco detention center, in the Venezuelan state of Anzoátegui, do not even have the right to protest, even if their naked bodies are used by the agents for the fight of two roosters. "Shut up, boy!" And zas !, a slap in the head to end the complaints. The never seen: an impromptu ring of skin and flesh in the courtyard of the police station, the human (imp) palenque of impunity for fun and revenge of the police.

The video, made public last Monday, September 30 and that took place the previous week, has run on social networks before the evidence that the Venezuelan tragedy is determined to be overcome every day [in these pages a sequence with the images] . The quarrel - the ring where the roosters fight - were the backs of around 80 young inmates without clothes. They lay face down, hands on the back of the neck and kissing the ground, in one of the courtyards of the Police Coordination Center of the municipality of Anaco. Glued to each other for two hours in a macabre scene under the sun, more than 30 degrees and with overheated cement.

On them, two roosters peck clean. Giving spurs. Jumping back to back, ripping skins before the grudge and the threats of the uniformed organizers of such a cruel coliseum. The agents even threw food on their backs, so that the roosters continued their fighting ritual. Why? The police removed the detainees from their crowded dungeons to carry out a search, relatives explained.

The inmates had started another strike for lack of water and food. They also demanded that they be allowed to receive the medication that their closest ones get abroad. «The prisoners tortured in Anaco, the municipal police station, were the prisoners who were there, all in general. It was not about ones in particular. It arose from these wishes of revenge of the police because they fail to collect the vaccine (extortion) from family members, because of their frustrations, ”explains Carlos Nieto Palma, general coordinator of the NGO Una Ventana a la Libertad, which disseminated the case. .

This organization denounced that, before the human palenque, the policemen forcibly removed them after spraying the interior of the cells with fuel and forced them to undress while they distributed blows on their buttocks with wooden boards. The most rebellious also received blows to the head, even some were suffocated with plastic bags, a torture used continuously in the worst dungeons in the country. The violation of human rights is of such caliber in Venezuela that the UN has approved the creation of a commission to investigate the violations. The oil country thus becomes the first Latin American nation investigated by the Human Rights Council. Tortures, executions, rapes, political prisoners, persecution and killings confirm this.

THE POLICE AND ITS 18,000 DEAD

According to Human Rights Watch, since 2016 almost 18,000 people have died at the hands of police forces. What happened in Anaco also airs the general practices of the massive detention centers (police stations or police headquarters), where the detainees are crowded for months without food despite the fact that the law states that they can only stay there for 48 hours before being transferred to prison. «They all paid for the bad behavior of some. This is not the way, of course, to suppress a protest of detainees. It occurs in all police stations in Venezuela, in all pre-trial detention centers that have become prisons without the conditions or requirements to be so, ”adds Nieto to this supplement.

The Ministry of Penitentiary Service, directed by the radical Iris Varela (very close to Nicolás Maduro), ordered years ago that the detainees remain in police stations and were not transferred to prisons in a first stage, despite the fact that the law marks that in these places can only stay for 48 hours. The different police officers do not have space or places to hold detainees, nor health conditions to attend them, nor food to feed them ... The economic collapse caused by the revolution did the rest of the work. The economic transactions under rope, where families have to pay in dollars any need of the prisoners, were extended in more than 500 detention centers, with about 50,000 inmates inside. «Payment, extortion and corruption for everything, for letting them take the food ... The family provides it and that is why they extort it, charge them for feeding them. That happens in Anaco and in all the centers of the country. It is a common practice that the police have taken to act in these situations, ”confirms the coordinator of Una Ventana a la Libertad.

On this occasion, and exceptionally, the Prosecutor of the Revolution, always obedient to the Miraflores Palace, reacted immediately "to the brutal events" and ordered the arrest of the commissioner of Anaco and at least six of the agents involved in the facts. Chavez prosecutor Tarek William Saab served as governor of Anzoátegui years ago and bad tongues say he aspires to that position again.

The situation borders and exceeds the inhuman in a large part of these centers. In March of last year, 66 men and two women lost their lives in Valencia. Autopsies showed that they were victims of the flames and suffocation after another requisition forced by the agents of that police station. In May of this year, 30 were killed in Araure, a massacre caused by a riot that confirmed, once again, that hell in Venezuela is shared by prisons and detention cells.
