The telecom operator Orange has presented Wednesday its new Livebox 5, which will include an increase in speeds, an improvement of the performance wifi and wants to think according to its ecological impact, with a shell made of 100% recycled plastic.

This box is "tailored to the needs of our subscribers," according to the CEO of Orange France, Fabienne Dulac. It integrates neither embedded voice assistant, nor the new wifi standard, Wifi 6, "available on less than 1% of devices in France, it will be barely 4% by the end of 2020", justified the leader.

The new box sees its maximum speed increased to 2 Gigabits per second to track the increase in the capacity of the network - including the deployment of the fiber - and the number of terminals connected simultaneously in homes.

Another novelty: the box will choose the best wifi channels to avoid disturbances created by other devices.

But Orange has mainly focused on the presentation of its box on its ecological performance: recycled plastic shell, 29% less carbon footprint, 17% lower consumption, fewer components and easier repairs.

"We are working with all our partners, both upstream and downstream, on the design of the box, its realization and the collection of user boxes. We found a manufacturer of 100% recycled plastic in Austria, there is had unfortunately not in France, "insisted Ms. Dulac.

The Livebox 5 will be available on October 10 for Livebox Up Fiber subscribers, starting at € 30.99 for the first 12 months, and Open Up Fiber Packs starting at € 28.99 per month for the first 12 months.
