“We have to figure this out. So far we are not affirming anything, but we see signs that there was interference. We need to figure out whether these were instructions from above, some kind of arbitrariness of the people in the field, or some strange contractual schemes. In any case, our main task is prevention. And the task of law enforcement agencies is to see if there are any illegal things there, ”the senator said.

According to him, the commission’s work is aimed at ensuring that Facebook, Google and other similar structures in Russia act in compliance with the law.

“We are doing very civilized. If these companies want to understand the situation with us, please. We do not assume any noisy public relations action here. We are ready to explain to these companies what we consider to be interference, and we are ready to discuss with them how to ensure that they are not involved in these showdowns by any of our different defendants, ”he said.

The senator emphasized that for such situations "there must be general international rules."

“The door is open for a normal and constructive dialogue. We understand who we are dealing with, but we offer communication with Facebook and Google. I do not think that this must be done in the public version, because our business is prevention. But, if specific defendants are identified, then we have our own legislation, which should work fully, ”he concluded.

Klimov said earlier that the Federation Council’s Commission for the Protection of State Sovereignty and the Prevention of Intervention in the Internal Affairs of Russia has data on the intentional preparation of riots in Moscow during the election period.

He also noted that representatives of Google and Facebook were invited to the meeting in order to prevent the possible further use of their Internet platforms for committing illegal actions in Russian territory.
