At a meeting in London, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has told EU Parliament President David Sassoli that he wants a deal for Britain's exit from the EU. It states a spokesperson from Johson's staff, Reuters writes.

The spokesman says that the Prime Minister believes he prefers to leave the EU with an agreement and that his proposal is an attempt to resolve the border issue in Ireland. But if an agreement cannot be reached by October 31, the UK will leave the Union without an agreement.

Annoyed Tusk

At the same time, more and more indications are that it will be difficult to reach an agreement. Earlier in the evening, EU Permanent Council President Donald Tusk resigned after Johnson blamed the failed Brexit talks on the EU, TT writes.

"This is not about winning some stupid pie throw," Tusk writes on Twitter.

“What is at stake is the future of Europe and the United Kingdom, as well as the security and interests of our people. You don't want an agreement, you don't want an extension, you don't want a revocation, quo what? ”, He continues. "Quo vadis" means something like: where are you going?

Annoyed Merkel

The annoyance has escalated after a phone call between Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel and Johnson. If the UK cannot compromise on the big crackdown on the Irish border then it is highly unlikely that the parties will be able to reach a Brexit agreement, Merkel should have told Johnson according to a British source.

She is said to have demanded that Johnson agree that Northern Ireland, which belongs to the United Kingdom, be retained in the EU Customs Union.

Merkel's staff does not want to comment on what was said during the conversation.
