A source in the Iraqi Ministry of Defense told Al Jazeera Net that Lieutenant General Abdul Wahab al-Saadi was placed under house arrest, or in what is known militarily as "barracks".

The source, who preferred to remain anonymous, that Saadi has been under this detention for three days, pointing out that his military unit does not allow him to exercise his military powers or communicate with anyone.

Al-Saadi is one of the military leaders who have emerged in the war against ISIS in recent years, and he has held various leading security positions in the Special Forces and the Counterterrorism Service.

Iraqi authorities are believed to be silent on the news, fearing it will have an effect on fueling protests in the country, which has been going on for days because of Saadi's popularity on the Iraqi street.

Saadi was transferred late last month to an administrative position in the Department of the Department of the Ministry of Defense, which he considered in media statements "insult and punishment," adding that he does not know the reason for the decision, but prefers to retire to transfer to the Ministry of Defense.

The decision to move al-Saadi angered many of his supporters and sparked protests and stoked, among other reasons, demonstrations that have not seen the country like in years. During the recent demonstrations in Iraq, it was noted that the protesters uploaded pictures of Saadi.
