The corresponding statement was published on the organization’s website.

The report notes that freedom of expression and peaceful protest are fundamental human rights and the Ecuadorian government is obligated to guarantee the implementation of these rights, but there is no justification for the violence, robbery and vandalism recorded during the demonstrations.

“The OAS General Secretariat strongly condemns the acts of violence recorded in recent days in Quito. The abduction of police and military personnel is completely unacceptable, as well as the destruction and looting of public goods, setting fire to patrol cars and attacks on ambulances, ”the statement said.

The OAS calls on all parties to engage in a dialogue to resolve differences.

Earlier, Ecuador’s president, Lenin Moreno, said government officials were leaving the capital of Quito after mass protests.

On October 3, the head of Ecuador announced the introduction of a state of emergency due to protests that began after the government took economic measures.
