Mohammed bin Rashid Space Center has announced the launch of the “Discover the Red Planet” competition, in its fourth session, as part of its strategy to encourage students to scientific research, especially in topics related to space.

The theme of the competition is "Avoiding collisions with space objects while carrying out missions in space." The competition is an opportunity for university students in various stages and specializations of engineering and scientific, to provide in-depth research on this subject, and aims to encourage students to conduct scientific research on Mars, especially its atmosphere, and presented in the form of a paper board (poster).

A panel of leading local and international Mars exploration specialists will evaluate the students' participation, while the top three winners will receive certificates and cash prizes.

Imran Sharaf, director of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, said the competition was part of the center's efforts to spread the culture of research and exploration, build the capacity of the future generation in the field of space science, and give them the opportunity to acquire information about the red planet, its atmosphere and its climate.

He stressed that the competition is an extension of the objectives of the Emirates Mars Exploration Project, which seeks to make a positive impact on the educational system in the country, by encouraging students to participate in research and targeted studies. “The three previous sessions during which we have received research on Mars have seen qualitative contributions, and we hope to see valuable research this year reflecting the level of awareness of society in general, and the education sector in particular, about the importance of Mars discovery to meet the current and future challenges of the planet,” he said.
