In Mali, the Support Group for Islam and Muslims claims the double attack of September 30 in Boulkessi and Mondoro in the center of the country. In a statement released Monday night on social networks, the GSIM, led by Iyad Ag Ghali, reported more than 80 Malian soldiers killed.

The GSIM waited a week before claiming the double attack of the Mondoro military camp and the Malian G5 Sahel detachment in Boulkessi. The latter has become the deadliest episode perpetrated against the Malian Armed Forces (Fama) since fierce fighting in the Kidal region in May 2014.

The jihadist coalition led by Iyad Ag Ghali, associated with Amadou Koufa of the katiba of Macina in central Mali and AQIM, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, claims to have killed more than 80 Malian soldiers. The official report of the authorities tells him of 40 deaths. The GSIM reportedly captured several soldiers, including an officer. The assailants also announce that they seized a large batch of equipment, including about fifteen machine guns, 76 Kalashnikov rifles, two mortars and numerous ammunition.

Association with the Islamic State group ?

Military equipment added to the booty already won in August in Koutougou, Burkina Faso. An action that had also been claimed by the GSIM, except that, according to a note of Burkinabe information, this attack was planned and executed by the branch led by Abdul Hakim of the Islamic State in the Great Sahara. EIGS is also becoming increasingly important in this border area between Mali and Burkina Faso estimate several sources security.

So did the EIGS team up with GSIM by sending fighters to Boulkessi last week? Did they stand together? Hard to answer. Especially since the presence of a third group is not excluded. Last Tuesday, in a statement, the command of the G5 Sahel joint force quickly accused the Burkinabe group Ansarul Islam of being the author of this deadly attack.
