October 08, 2019Turkish artillery hit the northeastern Syrian region on the border with Iraq overnight. This was reported by Sana, the government agency of Damascus, which shows photos and videos of the bombings that took place near the border crossing of Simalka, between Iraq and Syria, and a vital corridor for military and logistic supplies of the anti-Isis Coalition led by the US and for the Kurdish-Syrian forces. The attack comes after the start of the withdrawal of American forces from the area, a retreat which the White House however resizes after internal and international criticism. Kurdish militias, US allies against ISIS, have spoken of "stabs in the back".
