Turkey: Prepared for military operation in Syria

The Turkish Foreign Ministry states that the country's military is ready with all preparations for a possible operation in northeastern Syria. The information comes shortly after a White House spokesman stated that the United States has withdrawn between 50 and 100 soldiers from the Turkish border in northern Syria, and then also said that Turkey is close to acting.

- It looks like Turkey is determined to launch some kind of military operation. US soldiers will not be involved, the spokesperson said, according to the AFP news agency.

On Monday, US President Donald Trump defended the decision to withdraw US troops from Syria as he felt it was time for other countries to take responsibility. But he warned Turkey at the same time.

"If Turkey does something that, with my great and unparalleled wisdom, I think is out of bounds, I will totally destroy and obliterate Turkey's economy," Trump wrote on Twitter.

Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde (S) takes a very serious look at developments in Syria.

“After more than eight years of conflict, Syria and the region need peace, not a new conflict. Military action risks having enormous consequences and leading to further suffering, ”Linde writes in an email to TT.
