Gilles Simon, 49th in the world, was eliminated on Monday in the first round of the 1000 Masters Shanghai by Cameron Norrie, 64th and qualifying, 7-5, 6-2.

Norrie won the first set on a final exchange where both players were together on the fly, with Simon finally sending the ball into the net.

The 34-year-old Frenchman, frustrated with the loss of the first run, lost his throw in the very beginning of the second run. In perdition, he found himself led 4-0.

He then went back to 4-2. But on a double fault, he again dropped his throw and allowed Norrie to serve for the match. The Brit did not miss his chance to win.

He will face Daniil Medvedev (4th) in the second round. The Russian, exempt from first round as all major seed, is the player who has won the most games so far this season (54): winner of his first Masters 1000 in Cincinnati, he reached the finals of all tournaments of the North American summer tour, including the US Open, and remains on a title in St. Petersburg.
