This year, too, there was a Nobel Prize in medicine for Emmanuelle Charpentier, the woman behind the gene scissors, the invention she and others developed during her time at Umeå University. The award went to William G. Kaelin Jr., Sir Peter J. Ratcliffe and Gregg L. Semenza instead.
This year's award in medicine is shared with the three men for their research on how cells make food a useful energy.
However, all hope for the Nobel Prize for Emmanuelle Charpentier is not out. On Wednesday, she gets another chance when the Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be awarded this year.
