The Egyptian Attorney General has requested a reservation on the funds of academic Hassan Nafaa, who was arrested by the authorities about two weeks ago. A human rights source told Al Jazeera Net that an Egyptian court had set November 2 to continue consideration of the reservation request.

The source pointed out that the Criminal Court of South Cairo in the suburb of Fifth Settlement considered in its session on Monday the request of the reservation submitted by the Attorney General, but postponed the hearing to enable the defense to see the Public Prosecutor's memorandum.

On Sunday, the Supreme State Security Prosecutor ordered Nafeh to be detained for 15 days pending investigations. He was charged with "participating a terrorist group (unnamed) in achieving its purposes and publishing and broadcasting false news and statements."

The authorities arrested Nafa on September 25 as part of a security crackdown targeting academics, politicians, journalists and activists, amid a rare wave of protest against President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

In August, Egyptian authorities seized the money of 83 people in case No. 930 of 2019, known as the Media Alliance of Hope, which includes public figures, politicians and journalists.

The amount of money withheld by the Egyptian authorities in cases with a political dimension of more than 300 billion pounds (about 17.7 billion dollars), according to media close to the Authority Ahmed Moussa last year.

In May, the Reservation, Management and Disposal Committee said it had finalized a new list of six hundred individuals and families associated with the Muslim Brotherhood and its leaders in preparation for a request to the Court of Urgent Matters to confiscate the funds and property of these names.
