It is now only weeks left until the UK leaves the EU. According to the current timetable, this will take place on 31 October. The question of Brexit is raised in the Gothenburg port's rotor terminal.

Goods that are not ready for customs before shipping to Sweden run the risk of being trapped in the Gothenburg port terminals. It states the management of the port.

- That's the message we send to the market. If you do not order these pieces, you will not enter the harbor, says Elvir Dzanic, CEO of Gothenburg Harbor AB.

The rotor terminal has daily traffic with the UK, including raw materials and components for Swedish industry, consumer goods and food. Large quantities of steel and paper are shipped to the UK. This is stated by the Port of Gothenburg.

According to the port, the EU will apply third-country rules to the UK after its exit on issues such as customs tariffs, customs controls and checks on EU rules to ensure the condition of the goods. Elvir Dzanic understands that it can still be difficult for some players to take the right steps in time.

No queuing situations

- My view is that the major players are well prepared. The challenge lies primarily with the smaller players who do not have the administrative capacity of the larger merchants and freight forwarders.

Elvir Dzanic does not think there will be any queuing situations in the gates to the terminals.

- If there is a problem, they will arise earlier in the system, as in the port's main entrance, "Port Entry" where we have to be prepared. Should that be necessary, we have identified a number of areas in the vicinity of the port where you may need to be referred temporarily in anticipation of clearance, he says.

How do you see the Gothenburg port on Brexit?

- We believe that it is a negative and an aggravating circumstance for trade between the countries and on a broader level a negative development in that one closes instead of opening up in relation to the outside world, says Stefan Strömberg, press communicator at Gothenburg Harbor AB to SVT News West.
