After the national tribute, it is in Corrèze that we celebrate on Saturday the memory of the former president Jacques Chirac, in the presence of his family.

REPORTAGE

After the national tribute, it is the turn of Corréziens to pay homage to Jacques Chirac. The family wanted to organize two ceremonies. The first at Sainte Féréole, where lived the grandparents of Jacques Chirac and where his parents are buried. Then in Haute-Corrèze, where he took his first steps in politics.

After a moment of private meditation in the cemetery of Sainte-Féréole, the County Council organized a public tribute to the museum of President Jacques Chirac, in Sarran. Claude Chirac, the president's daughter, and her husband went to meet the many Corréziens who came to greet the memory of the former head of state.

Bernadette Chirac absent

"It's a great emotion, and a wonder to see so much human warmth, affection expressed," says Claude Chirac, moved. "I take this opportunity to thank, once again, first and foremost from my mother, which is a great comfort for her, thank you for that, she really needs it." Weakened, Bernadette Chirac was not present for this day of tribute.

"An extraordinary guy"

In the crowd, locals and activists rub shoulders. "He did a lot for the agricultural world," recalls Marcel. "Thanks to the motorway, he opened up the Corrèze and Haute-Corrèze, he was an extraordinary guy, considered as family: he came, he shook hands with everyone, he tapped on the shoulder."

The tribute continued with a Correzian buffet, like the former President Jacques Chirac, with beer, cheese, regional products and apples from the Limousin which he had praised in his campaign of 1995.
