Mitrofanov noted that last week the ruling parties of Latvia agreed at the concept level to fully translate all instruction into the Latvian language.

According to him, the authorities speak of a desire to increase the competitiveness of Russian-speaking students in this way.

“However, there are other ways to teach the state language, and not the elimination of Russian-language instruction. In recent years, Russian-speaking graduates, young people from Russian families have shown good results when they enter academic institutions within the Republic of Latvia, including budget departments, ”Mitrofanov said.

The politician added that, in addition to protests, Russian language advocates use such methods as appeals to international organizations, including the UN.

“We appeal to domestic courts and to the international court of human rights in Strasbourg. Applications are now being prepared on a whole range of issues. The main tool is the domestic political process, in particular, our protest activity in the streets and activity in all authorities, ”he concluded.

Earlier, a march in defense of Russian-language education was held in Riga. It was organized by the Russian Union of Latvia.

Participants of the procession protest against the full translation of preschool and secondary education into the Latvian language.
