Abdelhakim Hazaqa - Algeria

With the start of the countdown to the presidential nomination period in Algeria, the activities of the popular movement intensified its initiatives and consultations in all directions, in an effort to build large blocs and submit candidates, or support riders express their aspirations, so that figures emerged for media circulation in their name.

This is happening at a time when no party coalition has emerged so far, and without any political faction declaring support for any candidate.

Absence of former loyalist parties completely from the electoral scene, having formed a popular locomotive in the past benefits since 1999, as well as the reluctance of the major Islamic formations to enter the race; increased the chances of moving to independent civil events, which raised hopes for the possibility of resolving the presidential election, despite fears of a candidate scenario Actual power at the last moment.

The emergence of these independent blocs at the expense of traditional party alliances raised the question of observers about the motives behind them, and whether they can make the next president of Algeria, and some even doubt that their movement is engineered from within the system itself, to find an alternative popular base for the structures of "worn out and pariah" .

Consensual filter
Al-Hadi Jaballah, from the original movement, said that the members of the movement have conducted extensive consultations to bridge the viewpoints between the activities of the movement and national figures and various associations.

He added that this was done "to contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the movement, through quality initiatives that provide safe solutions across the entire stations, the latest attempt to provide an independent consensus candidate with a strong team and a pilot program."

He revealed to Al Jazeera Net that the endeavor aims to choose a veteran figure, have the balance and experience, but that was rejected, and it was decided to nominate young competencies with the greatest consensus.

In this context, Gaballah pointed to the emergence of the name of the international expert in management and governance and investor in the field of information and education Faisal Beljilali, among a number of proposed names.

For his part, Yahia Jafari, leader of the "Patriotic Movement Supporters Project", said that the stakes in Algeria require "the achievement of broad alliances, to carry out two tasks: persuading the people to participate in the elections, and pushing a candidate in harmony with the activities of the movement and parties and does not clash with the army."

He explained to Al Jazeera Net that this requires "a conscious front of patriots and Islamists to resolve the battle for presidencies, which is what we seek for a consensus candidate to support the choices of the people."

With regard to reaching a national consensus, he said that "the option is still under consultation, whether those who have nominated or those who have not yet announced their candidacy, ruling out the exclusion of any candidate belonging to the movement."

He revealed that "the announcement of the harmonic character of the bloc is imminent."

Speed of movement
Analyst Abdel Rahman Saidi explains the emergence of independent blocs that "the popular movement has been able to achieve what has been difficult for the political parties to achieve, which is to overthrow the fifth term of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and his regime and his gang and liberate the political arena," as he put it.

"The movement has bypassed its interactions throughout the most famous classical parties and various trade union and association activities. The latter faced difficulties in the level of response, adoption and political initiatives in realizing the political speed of the movement."

He explained to Al Jazeera Net that "with the approaching date of the election appeared when the candidates of the trend of affiliation to the popular movement, which prompted various activities in the bloc and block the chances of seizing political affiliation."

This has created, according to Saidi - a stampede of various trends to participate in the elections away from party cover, which may make Algeria to the surprise of the second round for the first time in the history of the Algerian elections, especially after the military establishment said that it does not support any candidate.

hard mission
University professor Djamel Daou believes, however, that "in the 30 years of political bulldozing, it is difficult for these blocs to succeed in making the next president, after all their attempts to persuade some heavy and clean names to run have failed."

He told Al Jazeera Net "The fact that the mature figures within these blocs are aware that it is wrong to present an incoming president, away from any consensus with the military leadership, because he will be president without any tools."

"There are no indications or information available on any role that the actual authority of some of these blocs can be assigned to be a popular lever for its candidate."

"Therefore, any person who pushes them will be nothing more than an experiment, whose aim is to create political mobility, and to build grassroots bases that may establish a post-presidential political stampede."
