Borussia Dortmund defender Achraf Hakimi said he made the best decision when he chose to defend Morocco and sent a special message to French coach Zinedine Zidane, stressing that Real Madrid can compete for titles this season.
Hakimi spoke to the Spanish newspaper "S" and explained that he chose to represent Morocco despite playing in the youth groups of Spain, and confirmed that this decision was the best for him, and said: "I simply felt that it would be better to play with Morocco, I do not know what was waiting for me in The future if I played for Spain, but that was my decision because I felt that I was Moroccan, that I was Muslim because of my family and all my roots that I have there, I think it was a good decision.
The young defender pointed out that his brilliance with the Moroccan national team and the clubs he played has made him a role model for many young people in Morocco.
He said that his performance with Dortmund prompted the officials to put forward the idea of signing him permanently after the end of his loan period from Real Madrid, but made clear that this decision is not linked to him alone because it is a matter of negotiations with Real Madrid, who has his contract.
He admitted that he accepted a special challenge when he decided to join Dortmund because of the different language and culture, and thanked his colleagues in Dortmund who helped him in his new team.
He said he was keen to help Dortmund lead the Bundesliga again after losing last rounds last season, although Dortmund had been in the lead for much of the season.
He said that he had drawn from his first year with Real Madrid positive and negative things, and stressed that it was a difficult year despite the crowning of the Champions League, and praised his former French coach Zinedine Zidane, who was giving him special advice to always give him the best.
He said that the current generation in Real, led by Ramos, Modric, Benzema and Marcelo is still able to lead the team towards titles, and called for supporters patience on the team.
