Moroccan runner Soufiane Bekkali gave his country a bronze medal on Friday after a brilliant victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the World Athletics Championships in Qatar.

Bakkali finished in eight minutes 03.76 seconds.

Kenya's Consilos Kiproto won the gold medal in eight minutes 01.35 seconds, ahead of Ethiopia's Lamica Jerma, who clocked eight minutes 01.36 seconds.

The seventh day of the championship saw a new world record set by American Dalila Mohammed in the women's 400 meters hurdles.

The US sprinter broke the race in 52.16 seconds and also beat the previous record.

Dalila set her previous record of 52.20 seconds in the United States in July.

American Sidney McLaughlin finished second in 52.23 seconds, with Jamaican Rachel Clayton taking the bronze with the best time.
