Recently, the Sölvesborg Samstyret decided on a new flag policy in the municipality, which means that the Pride flag will no longer be hoisted at the town hall. Last weekend, the pride flag Töreboda municipality was stolen and in Umeå it was cut down outside Umeå City church.

In response to the recent events and debate on the rainbow flag, a manifestation is now being held at the Gothenburg Square in Gothenburg.

- There have been several municipal discussions about the flag, where Sölvesborg is best known, where the importance of the rainbow flag is questioned as a symbol. We see that it is not possible to use it as a symbol in the same way as before and that is a problem, says Anderas Hernbo, chairman of RFSL Gothenburg.

Several organizers

The manifestation held on Saturday is party political independent and the initiative was taken by Musicians Against Racism. Several other organizers have joined such as RFSL Gothenburg, West Pride and the Red Cross Youth Federation in Gothenburg.

The purpose is to highlight the rainbow flag as a symbol of the rights of LGBTQ + people and as a stand for all people's equal value and rights.

- It is not defined who owns the flag and it becomes problematic when it is presented as if a certain ideology or organization is behind it. We need to raise the flag as a symbol of people's equal value and LGBT rights, ”says Andreas Hernbo.

Waiting for thousands of people

The response has been great and a number of artists will perform during the manifestation. The writer, comedian and artist Jonas Gardell will also be the speaker.

- We expect about three to five thousand people and that's better than we hoped for, says Anderas Hernbo.
