The fact that the Russian journalist Yulia Yuzik was detained in Iran became known on the night of October 3–4. Around midnight, a record made by her daughter appeared on Yuzik's Facebook page.

“On October 3, my grandmother in tears called me and asked me to come home, saying that my mother had big problems. But then I could not even think that they were so serious: they could put my mother in jail in another country, and for a long time I couldn’t even see her, but I won’t be able to hear her voice. After all, the phone was taken away, but there are no other ways to contact her ... She knew that such a situation could happen, but she went. On Saturday there will be a court deciding her fate, ”the girl wrote.

On the morning of October 4, on his page in the social network, Boris Voytsekhovsky told a little more about the detention of his ex-wife.

“A couple of years ago, Julia worked as a correspondent in Tehran. The other day, by invitation, she again went to Tehran. But already at the airport her passport was taken away, saying that they would return it on departure from the country. However, the day before, breaking the door to her room, Julia was taken by employees of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps directly from the hotel. She was allowed to call Moscow last night, and even then for a minute. That's all that she managed to say: sitting on the floor in the cell, there is no connection, on Saturday to court. She is accused of collaborating with Israeli intelligence agencies. This is at least 10 years, ”the man wrote, asking for help to anyone who can assist in resolving this situation.

In a conversation with RT, the press officer of the Russian Embassy in Iran, Andrei Ganenko, confirmed information that a passport was seized from Yuzik at the Tehran airport, and later the journalist was detained in the hotel room where she was staying.

“On September 29, citizen Yuzik flew to Tehran by private invitation. Upon arrival, border officials at the Imam Khomeini Airport, for reasons unknown for the time being, had her passport seized. On October 2, a Russian citizen was arrested at a hotel where she stayed in the Iranian capital. According to her mother, Julia was charged with working for the Israeli secret services. Embassy staff learned about this in the morning of October 4. We have not yet received official notification from local authorities. According to unverified information, the court hearing is supposed to be held tomorrow. We do not have reliable information on this subject yet. The embassy and the ambassador personally are in constant contact with the leadership of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, ”RT Ganenko said.

According to him, today is a day off in Iran, and therefore no action and response from Iranian colleagues should be expected until tomorrow. At the same time, the embassy press officer assured that the Russian side was taking all necessary measures to clarify the situation.

At the same time, Ganenko noted that Yuzik did not inform the diplomatic mission about her visit to Tehran, although, according to her husband and daughter, she suggested that she might encounter some problems in Iran. In addition, she did not report the seizure of a passport at Tehran's airport.

“In this regard, taking into account the difficult political situation in the country and the tense external political situation around Iran, we would like to contact all Russian media employees who intend to visit the Islamic Republic with a convincing request to inform the embassy of their plans in advance if possible ", - said Ganenko.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the Yulia Yuzik case “took control of the Russian embassy in Tehran and Russian diplomats.” Zakharova also said that in connection with the detention of the Russian woman, “Iranian ambassador to Moscow Mehdi Sanai was invited to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to clarify the circumstances of the incident and ensure the rights” of a Russian citizen.

Meanwhile, friends Yuzik were shocked to learn about the situation.

“To be honest, I’m shocked and don’t know what to expect next. I worked with her two years ago when she ran for parliament in Dagestan. After that, I did not communicate closely with her. I just didn’t even know that she was there, ”photo-journalist Maxim Novikov, former colleague Yuzik, told RT.

In 2003, Julia Yuzik wrote the book “Brides of Allah. The faces and fates of all female shahid women who exploded in Russia. ” She later released the book Beslan Dictionary. Julia worked in hot spots.

In 2016, she was a candidate for deputy of the State Duma from the Republic of Dagestan. It was put forward by the Parnassus party.
