The first ordinary Plenary session of the legislature in the Assembly of Madrid has been released with an image of political division. The opposition of Vox has prevented the approval of an institutional declaration against gender violence that had been agreed by the rest of the parties with representation in the hemicycle-PSOE, PP, Cs, Más Madrid and Unidos Podemos-.
Rocío Monasterio's group had demanded that the text include the mention that "all victims matter", not specifically mentioning women but "every vulnerable person and in any circumstance." In statements to the media, the deputy of the radical right-wing party has specified that children and adults can also suffer this type of aggression.
In addition, Vox proposed replacing the term gender violence with "domestic violence." The rejection of the rest of the parties has prevented the reading of the aforementioned institutional declaration, since it requires unanimity of the Autonomous Chamber to do so.
What all the deputies have done at the beginning of this session has been to keep a minute of silence for the last women killed by their partners.
