Emmanuel Macron said Thursday in Rodez (Aveyron) that the pension reform should lead to "a system that builds the future" and not just a "financial reform for the next two months."

The debate on this reform, which "begins today and will continue in the coming months", "should help to remove misunderstandings when there are, clarify points in governance, give guarantees in the system, "he said at the beginning of the debate with 600 people in the village hall of Rodez.

"What is clear is that I want to go to a system that builds the future, that is to say, positive," and "we will stay on the system with 42 plans and make a just financial reform for the next two months ".

"This is the commitment I made to the French," he added, assuring that the merger reform into a single point system of the 42 existing regimes by 2025 was aimed at creating a system "more readable, more transparent".

He repeated several times that the legal age of retirement remained at 62, while evoking the need to "define" a "pivotal age" during the current consultation. It is from this age only that one will be able to benefit from a full pension, without discount.

But, he said, some decisions will be related to the financial situation of the system. The government has appealed to the Pension Policy Board (NRC) to find out if the new system, in 2025, will start to break even. The COR must return a copy by the end of November.

"If the COR says to us: + it misses 8, 10 billion +, we will have to say + have to work a little longer, that it is absolutely true +", the head of the state put forward.

"If he tells us + it's up to balance in 2025+, we will not need to do it," he added, suggesting that if there is a need for funding, is the lengthening of the contribution period which will be the preferred track.
