When former chief conductor Michael Francis quit in 2016, Norrköping's Symphony Orchestra, SON, began looking for a replacement. On Thursday, Karl-Heinz Steffens was presented by a satisfied Henrik Marmén, the symphony orchestra's artistic leader, who describes the relationship between Steffens and SON as "a match made in heaven".

- It was important to let the process take the time required to find the perfect match between the orchestra and conductor, says Henrik Marmén in a press release.

Since the former chief conductor quit, SON has had guest conductors, and one of them was Karl-Heinz Steffens.

Played Brams with SON

- When we met Karl-Heinz Steffens at last year's Bram initiative, we knew immediately that we had found our new chief conductor, says KHenrik Marmén.

Karl-Heinz Steffens is then summer's chief conductor at the Prague City Opera and the beginning as chief conductor in Norrköping in the fall of 2020.

- When we played all four symphonies by Brams last season together, there was an immediate artistic understanding immediately, and we simply had fun when we worked together, says Karl-Heinz Steffens in a comment on the appointment.
