Microplastics that are dispersed in water have become a growing environmental problem. One source of the spread is the granules from artificial green. In order to reduce the risk of microplastics spreading in the wild, the Municipality of Östersund has decided on a number of measures.
Among other things, granulate traps should be placed in storm water wells at all artificial green areas. Already in 2017 such traps have been set around Jämtkraft Arena.
In addition, brush stations should be present at all levels so that players can brush off granules before leaving the field.
The artificial lawns that are municipal in the municipality of Östersund are: Jämtkraft Arena (A and B-plan), Sport field, Åkreäng (Brunflo) and Hovvallen (not completed).
