US President Donald Trump and his Finnish counterpart Sulley Ninisto are expected to discuss when they meet ways to find alternatives to the 5G technology offered by Chinese telecom equipment companies as Huawei, a senior administration official said.

Finland is home to Nokia, which has rapidly developed 5G technology to compete with Huawei and ZTE.

Nokia offers one of the few viable alternatives for those countries that cherish their citizens' data privacy, data integrity and critical infrastructure security.

Washington has led a global campaign to persuade allies to ban Huawei from its list of preferred companies to develop their 5G networks, claiming that the world's largest telecommunications equipment maker can spy on users, but Huawei has denied the allegations.

Washington has also placed Huawei on a blacklist that prevents US companies from selling most of the world's second smartphone maker because of concerns about national security.

Trump and Finnish President Suli Ninesto are also expected to address what the official described as Russian aggression and Chinese ambitions in the Arctic.

Earlier this year, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Russia was acting aggressively in the Arctic, and China's actions there should be closely watched as well.
